Tell us a little about yourself?
:thumb107586494:
My name is Holly and I'm 18 years old and live in Pennsylvania. I've been doing various forms of art most of my life, but only more recently did I start doing it more often and started experimenting with different mediums, especially digital art. This fall I'm going to York College and majoring in graphic design.
How did you discover deviantART, and how long have you been a member?
My friend Sam told me about it, so I decided to join and found that some of my other friends use the site as well. I've been a member for about a year and a half.
Do you have a favourite thing about deviantART? How about least favourite?
My favourite thing is sharing my art with other people, it is a great way for people to see it and for me to get helpful comments and critiques on it so that I can learn from it and improve. I don't really have a least favourite thing.
What is your favorite form of art?
I like a variety of forms of art, ranging from traditional to digital. My favourite types to create myself are drawings using pencils and photomanipulations.
How did you start doing photography?
During last winter I saw the snow and other things that I wanted to take photos of, so I started doing that and then experimented with different types of photography such as macro, and then once all of the snow was gone I took pictures of flowers and am always looking for interesting subjects to take photos of.
Do you have any favourite tools of the trade?
Well for traditional work I like using a variety of mediums including: pencils, colored pencils, charcoal, and pastels. And I plan to experiment with even more mediums in the future. For my digital art and photomanipulations I use Photoshop 7, and have also gotten the chance to use Illustrater, which is very useful for certain things. And more recently I've been experimenting with photography so I use my digital camera for that.
Do you have a favorite artist (either on or off DA)?
Some of my favourite artists are: H.R. Giger, Keith Haring, Egon Schiele. And there are also a lot of artists that I'm a fan of on deviantart, but the one that stands out the most to me is because of his style and the concepts behind a lot of his work.
Where, or what do you pull your inspiration from?
Sometimes I start working on something with a specific concept in mind and try to illustrate that concept through my art. But other times I just look through stock images and see some that I would like to combine to create something and I'm inspired by the images themselves.
Do you create your art to send a message to people?
Sometimes there is a message in mind, such as a concept when making something, but other times its just meant to be appealing to look at or have a fantasy theme to it.
What is your favourite piece that you have created?
Well I'd have to say that one of my favourite manipulations that I have done is Ivy I like that one because Of the way I combined the images, it was a great way to practice with blending background images in a photomanipulation. But I'm also pleased with the way many others have turned out too. And for drawings, this one is my favourite: I spent so much time working on that. It was actually one of my first assignments for my drawing class in highschool, we could choose anything to draw, so I chose to draw something that I had done digitally in photoshop:
Why did you start this club?
I started this club so that I could help other people and allow people to see their work that deserves to be seen by others. It has also helped me to get to know other artists and see their work.
When and where did you get the idea to make this club?
About a month ago I was thinking about how to feature people. Throughout my time on deviantart I did news article features for people and thought that having a club based on this idea and so much more would be a great way to help people.
